Waltzing Matilda Centre Reconstruction

About Project

Winton, QLD

AGC is proud to have been engaged by Winton Shire Council to rebuild one of Outback Australia’s most iconic cultural landmarks: the Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton. After a devastating 2015 fire destroyed the original museum, AGC reconstructed the interpretive centre to include a café, offices, and display spaces, paying tribute to Banjo Paterson’s legendary bush ballad.

Key Features

  • $15.8 million project delivered within 12 months
  • Reinforced concrete walls, glazing panels & metal roofing
  • Fire-rated plasterboard interiors ensuring resilience
  • Integration of surviving elements to preserve historical significance
  • Partnering with Boral Townsville to reengineer the concrete composition, eliminating horizontal joints to enhance structural integrity in a harsh climate and poor soil conditions.

This world-class facility meets international museum standards, demonstrating AGC’s quality and construction capabilities, even in the harshest Outback environments!
